PROJECTS

I've been given the opportunity to analyze and enhance wound care programs not only across the state of Pennsylvania, but also across the nation.  By focusing on the nursing process, I meet the needs of the patients by working collaboratively with the WOCN and other clinical teams to speak the vision of safe skin and optimal wound care outcomes.

Workflow Redesign

To build value and visibility with the wound care team, I recently secured mobile carts for use when caring for patients.  Equipped with routine supplies, the WOCN team can now be more accessible to the nursing staff.  The mobile carts were then equipped with laptops for more real time documentation of the care they prescribe for their patients.

Educational Promotion

To build strength and confidence with the nursing staff, I have directed the wound care team to create a competency based education program for our clinical staff.  The education will focus on preventative  algorithms of care that are evidence based practices in our organization.  Outcomes will be measured in a pre-test / post-test design to track the effectiveness of our intervention.

Enhanced Patient Care

To build validity in our outcomes, the WOCN team has been directed to more closely participate in the quarterly skin care assessments completed.  As part of the data we submit to the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators, we assess all skin during a designated cross sectional survey and report those findings into the NDNQI database as part of our Magnet

designation.  This activity allows the WOCN team to showcase they work they're doing in our organization to promote safe skin and the optimal outcomes from close surveillance of healthy skin.

State-wide Focus:  Pressure Ulcer Advisory Board member:  Hospital Association of Pennsylvania
I participate in this state wide initiative to promote and track a CMS quality program called the Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN).  This two year project is aimed at supporting participating hospitals to decrease their rate of hospital-acquired pressure injuries.  As a spin off development from work started in 2012, this program will continue to track statewide incidence rates and provide evidence based practice recommendations.
